தமிழ் மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் நம் மொழியின் உடலாகக் கருதப் படுகின்றன. மெய் எழுத்துக்களை ஒரு மரத்திக்கு ஒப்பிடுவோம். அடிமரம், இலைகள், பூக்கள் என்று ஒரு மரத்தை மூண்று முக்கியப் பாகங்களாகப் பிரிக்கலாம். அடிமரம் தொடுவதற்குக் கடினமாக இருக்கும். பூக்கள் தொடுவதற்கு மிக மென்மையாக இருக்கும். இலைகளின் இழையமைப்பு இரண்டிற்கும் இடைப்பட்டதாக இருக்கும்.
ஒரு மரத்தைப் போலவே தமிழ் மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் அவற்றின் ஒலிக்கும் தன்மை கொண்டு மூன்று வகையாகப் பிரிக்கப் படுகின்றன.
மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் தங்களின் ஒலியைப் பொறுத்து வல்லினம், மெல்லினம்,இடையினம் என்று மூன்று வகைகளாகப் பிரிக்கப்படும். வல்லின எழுத்துக்கள் ஆறு. க்,ச்,ட்,த்,ப்,ற் வல்லின எழுத்துக்களாகும். இந்த எழுத்துக்களின் உச்சரிப்ப்பு வலுவான மூச்சுக்காற்று கொடுக்கும் அழுத்தத்தால் வலுமையாக இருக்கும். மெல்லின எழுத்துக்களும் ஆறு தான். ங்,ஞ்,ண்,ந்,ம்,ன் ஆகியவை மெல்லின எழுத்துகள் ஆகும். மெல்லிய ஓசைக் கொண்ட இந்த எழுத்துக்களை ஒலிக்க அதிக முயற்சி தேவையில்லை இடையின எழுத்துக்களும் ஆறு எழுத்துக்கள் தான். ய்,ர்,ல்,வ்,ழ்,ள் ஆகியவை இடையின எழுத்துக்கள். இந்த எழுத்துக்களை ஒலிக்கத் தேவையான முயற்சி நடுத்தரமாக இருக்கும். ஒலி ஓசையும் கடினமாகவோ அல்லது மென்மையாகவோ இல்லாமல் இடையில் வரும்.

Categorization

The Tamil consonants forms the body of the language. Think of the consonants as tree. The tree has three main parts. The trunk, the leaves and the flowers. The tree trunk is the hardest to touch, The flowers have the softest texture,and the leaves have a in-between texture.
Like a tree tamil consonants are divided in to three groups based on the way we pronounce them. Each group has six letters.
The consonants are categorized based on how hard or soft they pronounce. க்,ச்,ட்,த்,,ப்,ற் letters have a hardness to the sound when we pronounce them. They are called vallinam. ங்,ஞ்,ண்,ந்,ம்,ப் letters have a softness to the sound when we pronounce and does not require a lot of effort. They are called mellinam. The lettersய்,ர்,ல்,வ்,ழ்,ள் have a sound that is in-between hardness and softness. They are called idaiyinam.

The Three consonants ல்,ள்,ழ் may sound similar but they are very different from each other. “ல்”(il) will have a soft sound. “ள்”(iLL) will have a harder sound. “ழ்” will have a different sound altogether.

Similarities and differences

These three consonants belong to medial consonants(idiyinam). The three ல்,ழ்,ள் consonants will only come at the ending of a word. They will not begin the word.If they are used wrongly the meaning of the word will change.

ண்,ந்,ன் ஆகிய மூன்று மெய்யெழுத்துக்களை கொஞ்சம் கவனித்துப் பார்க்க வேண்டும். இவை தோற்றத்தில் வேறு பட்டிருந்தாலும் ஒலி அளவில் ஒரே மாதிரியாக இருக்கும். இவை உயிர் மெய் எழுத்துக்களாக மாறும் போது குழப்பம் இன்னும் அதிகரிக்கலாம் எனவே இந்த எழுத்துக்களுக்கு இடையில் உள்ள வேறுபாட்டை கவனிக்க வேண்டும்.

The three consonants though look different they have similar sounds. When they transform in to uyir mey letters the confusion increases too. So it is important to understand the basic differences.

என்ன வேறுபாடு?

• ந் என்ற  மெய் எழுத்து சொல்லின் இடையிலேயே வரும்.
• ண் என்ற மெய் எழுத்தும் ன் என்ற மெய் எழுத்தும் சொல்லின் இறுதியிலிம் இடையிலும் வரும்
• உயிர் மெய் எழுத்தாக மாறி வரும் போது ண் மெய் எழுத்துன் குடும்பம் சொல்லின் முதலில் வராது
• உயிர் மெய் எழுத்தாக மாறி வரும் போது ந் மெய் எழுத்துக்களின் குடும்பம் ஒரு சொல்லின் முதலில் வரும். இறுதியில் வராது
• உயிர் மெய் எழுத்தாக மாறி வரும் போது ன் மெய் எழுத்துன் குடும்பம் சொல்லின் முதலில் வராது

ண் என்ற மெய் எழுத்தையும் ன் என்ற மெய் எழுத்தையும் சரியாகப் பயன் படுத்த வேண்டும் இல்லை என்றால் பொருள் மாறி விடும்.

What is the difference?

• The consonant “ந்” will come in the middle of the words only.
• The consonant “ண்” and the consonant “ன்” will come at the middle and at the end of words
• When the consonant “ண்” becomes a uyir meiy it will not come in the beginning of any word
• When the consonant “ந்” becomes a uyir meiy it will only come at the beginning of the word. It will not come at the end of a any word
• When the consonant “ன்” becomes a uyir meiy it will not come in the beginning of any word

The letters ண் and ன் have to be used correctly otherwise the meaning of the word will change.

ஒளகார உயிர்மெய்

உயிர் எழுத்துக்களின் பன்னிரெண்டாவது எழுத்து “ஓள” பதினெட்டு மெய் எழுததுக்களுடன் சேர்ந்து பதினெட்டு உயிர்மெய் ஏழுத்துக்களை உருவாக்குகிறது. “ஓள”வின் ஒலியைத் தழுவி வரும். இந்த உயிர்மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் இரு மாத்திரைகள் கொண்டு ஒலிக்கும் நெடில்களாக மாறுகின்றன.

The twelfth vowel “ஓள” (ow) joins with the consonants to create the eighteen uyirmey letters. They adapt the sound of the vowel“ஓள” (ow) and have a longer sound duration of two seconds.

எப்படி மாறுகின்றன?

How do they change?

புள்ளியை இழந்த மெய்யெழுத்தின் முன்னால் ஒற்றை கொம்பு என்று சொல்லப் படும் குறியீடு வரும். எழுத்துக்களைத் தொடர்ந்து ள வடிவமுள்ள ஒலியை நீட்டும் குறியீடு வரும்.. இந்தக் குறியீடு ள என்ற உயிர்மெய் எழுத்திலிருந்து வேறு பட்டது. இந்தக் குறிக்கு என்று தனியாக ஒலிவடிவம் ஏதும் இல்லை. ஒலி நீண்டு ஒலிக்க வேண்டும் என்பதையே இது குறிக்கிறது. இந்தஒளகார வடிவ மாற்ற விதி எல்லா மெய் எழுத்துக்களுக்கும் பொருந்தும்.

The consonants will have the symbol called single horn preceding them. The symbol with the shape of ள will come after the consonants to indicate the elongated sound of the letter. This shape is different form the letter ள. This does not have a sound. It is nearly a shape that shows the letter has a longer sound duration.This rule applies to all the consonants.

”ஓள”(ow) is pronounced as ow like in the word “owl”

தமிழ் மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் நம் மொழியின் உடலாகக் கருதப் படுகின்றன. மெய் எழுத்துக்களை ஒரு மரத்திக்கு ஒப்பிடுவோம். அடிமரம், இலைகள், பூக்கள் என்று ஒரு மரத்தை மூண்று முக்கியப் பாகங்களாகப் பிரிக்கலாம். அடிமரம் தொடுவதற்குக் கடினமாக இருக்கும். பூக்கள் தொடுவதற்கு மிக மென்மையாக இருக்கும். இலைகளின் இழையமைப்பு இரண்டிற்கும் இடைப்பட்டதாக இருக்கும்.
ஒரு மரத்தைப் போலவே தமிழ் மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் அவற்றின் ஒலிக்கும் தன்மை கொண்டு மூன்று வகையாகப் பிரிக்கப் படுகின்றன.
மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் தங்களின் ஒலியைப் பொறுத்து வல்லினம், மெல்லினம்,இடையினம் என்று மூன்று வகைகளாகப் பிரிக்கப்படும். வல்லின எழுத்துக்கள் ஆறு. க்,ச்,ட்,த்,ப்,ற் வல்லின எழுத்துக்களாகும். இந்த எழுத்துக்களின் உச்சரிப்ப்பு வலுவான மூச்சுக்காற்று கொடுக்கும் அழுத்தத்தால் வலுமையாக இருக்கும். மெல்லின எழுத்துக்களும் ஆறு தான். ங்,ஞ்,ண்,ந்,ம்,ன் ஆகியவை மெல்லின எழுத்துகள் ஆகும். மெல்லிய ஓசைக் கொண்ட இந்த எழுத்துக்களை ஒலிக்க அதிக முயற்சி தேவையில்லை இடையின எழுத்துக்களும் ஆறு எழுத்துக்கள் தான். ய்,ர்,ல்,வ்,ழ்,ள் ஆகியவை இடையின எழுத்துக்கள். இந்த எழுத்துக்களை ஒலிக்கத் தேவையான முயற்சி நடுத்தரமாக இருக்கும். ஒலி ஓசையும் கடினமாகவோ அல்லது மென்மையாகவோ இல்லாமல் இடையில் வரும்.

Categorization

The Tamil consonants forms the body of the language. Think of the consonants as tree. The tree has three main parts. The trunk, the leaves and the flowers. The tree trunk is the hardest to touch, The flowers have the softest texture,and the leaves have a in-between texture.
Like a tree tamil consonants are divided in to three groups based on the way we pronounce them. Each group has six letters.
The consonants are categorized based on how hard or soft they pronounce. க்,ச்,ட்,த்,,ப்,ற் letters have a hardness to the sound when we pronounce them. They are called vallinam. ங்,ஞ்,ண்,ந்,ம்,ப் letters have a softness to the sound when we pronounce and does not require a lot of effort. They are called mellinam. The lettersய்,ர்,ல்,வ்,ழ்,ள் have a sound that is in-between hardness and softness. They are called idaiyinam.
